Edison Recreation

The Recreation Department offers residents an array of activities, programs, events and trips for all ages.  Many of the activities and programs are held at both community centers – the Dorothy K. Drwal Stelton Community Center at 328 Plainfield Ave. and the Minnie B. Veal Community Center at 1070 Grove Ave.

We have programs for everyone. To start, adults can join our weight room for a complete workout and then opt for the fast action of aerobics, a pick up game of basketball, or the quiet pace of yoga. They can also get creative with ceremics/arts & crafts, chess, painting & srawing workshop.   If they are diehard athletes, they can play on a team in our leagues of basketball, softball or coed softball.

Children of working parents can be enrolled in our before and after school childcare program, which is the largest in the state and operated in all public elementary and middle schools in Edison. There they will have homework time, be able to socialize, play games and make arts and crafts, all under the supervision of qualified instructors and assistants. Other after school programs include Kids’ Fun Clubs, which offer many activities; such as, brainy games, just sports, edible designs, line dancing, krafty kids and much more.

During the summer a six week playground program is offered at 9 neighborhood parks, with trips, games, crafts, as well as a summer tennis program and basketball camp.

Teen activities are also available after school and in the evenings. Teen members can join the Center’s basketball team, relax in the lounge and read magazines or watch TV, play pool or ping pong or they can try their hand at an art class, paint ceramics or do arts & crafts. Trips to amusement venues, pizza parties and a trip to the movies are also some of the activities offered.
