Programs and Services

Safe And Sound

The Edison Police Department is pleased to better support those with disabilities who may need extra help communicating in an emergency situation by implementing the Safe and Sound Program.

This program is designed to assist individuals who may have trouble communicating such as individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome and other developmental or cognitive disabilities. It is also intended for citizens who suffer from Dementia or Alzheimer's.

The Safe and Sound Program allows for the rapid identification and safe return of citizens who are unable to adequately communicate vital information about themselves to any Edison Police Officer.

Information on those who are registered in this program, including a picture of the registrant is placed in a secured database that Officers can access via computers in their patrol cars and also in centralized dispatch.  This information is available 24/7.

With the information at hand, the Officers can appropriately assist the person and get them, home quickly to their loved ones.

Enrollment is free, quick and easy.

Contact Officer Melissa Michalak Safe and Sound program coordinator at 732-248-7209.
